During June 2009 the Operations Division of E+PC decided to embark on achieving the coveted OHSAS 18001 certification for three of their plants, World Wide Coal – Carolina Coal Wash Plant, Kopermyn Coal Wash Plant and eMalahleni Water Reclamation Plant. The objective was to get certification BEFORE the end of 2009. E+PC Operations had previously used the NOSA Safety Management System but the General Manager Operations, Roy Malcolm, decided that in order to comply with the Aveng requirement, as well as being more globally recognisable, OHSAS 18001 was the way to go.
