According to the plant manager Thubendran Naidu, much credit is due to Aveng E-PC Operations, the plant's operation and maintenance contractor, as well as Gloudia Terry, the site’s Safety, Health and Environment coordinator, who worked unceasingly throughout 2009 to achieve this goal. "Being in possession of this certification tells our customers and other stakeholders that this facility operates to the highest international standards of quality assurance, occupational health and safety, which adds weight to what we do as a business," says Thubendran. He adds that the attainment of certification during 2009 was regarded as an ambitious target for the plant, however feedback from external auditors, National Qualifications Authority (NQA) – Africa, was more than impressive. "They commented that in all their years of experience, this was the first time they could only identify one minor finding in the physical audit component," says Thubendran. The NQA has formally made its recommendation to the certification body in the United Kingdom which is expected to ratify the certification early this year.
