Aveng E+PC Operations were awarded the operating contract for the Imbani Coal Washing Plant, based near Carolina in Mpumalanga, by Worldwide Coal, in November 2007. The design and construction of the plant and infrastructure was undertaken by others.
The plant was also previously operated by others, but was placed under care and maintenance in March 2007, due to the application of mining rights. The contract commenced with the selection and recruitment of the personnel required to operate and maintain the plant.
A total of 42 personnel were recruited, all of whom were previously employed by the outsourced plant operator and been retrenched during 2007. Site establishment commenced in December 2007, with all junior employees being selected using the LAB assessment tools. Aveng E+PC Operations contract commenced on 1st February 2008, with plant feed commencing on the 18th February.
Scope
To operate and maintain the coal washing plant and associated infrastructure, from the Run Of Mine feeder through to the washed product stockpiles. The plant has been designed for 60 000 tonnes per month ROM feed.
Duration
The contract is initially for three years, up to February 2011.
